How deep do you typically drill for a residential water well?
The depth of a residential water well can vary depending on factors such as the water table depth and the amount of water needed. On average, residential water wells are drilled between 25 and 800 feet deep in the Cascade County area. We have extensive knowledge of all areas around the county and are happy to give free estimates on depth and cost based on your exact location.
How long does it take to drill a water well?
The time it takes to drill a water well can vary depending on factors such as the depth of the well, the type of equipment used, and the area’s geology. On average, drilling a residential water well takes one to two days. Deeper wells, over 1,000’, can take one to two weeks.
I’m building a new home; when do I need to have my well drilled?
Drilling a well for new residential construction can be one of the first things done on the property. If you have a larger lot that does not have a predetermined well location, we encourage you to drill the well early to ensure you have a good well with a good water supply where you want to build. Once the well is drilled, the next step is installing the pump system later on in the build with one of our certified pump crews. When the home has a heated and insulated utility room with power, we can come back with our pump technicians to install a pump system to get water to the home.

What permits are required to drill a water well?
The permits required to drill a water well vary depending on the location and local regulations. Montana has no state-permitting requirements, but well permits can be county-specific. In Cascade county, you do not need a permit to drill a water well, but you do need to make sure your drill site is approved by the county if in a planned subdivision or city area. The local city and/or county planning departments have sitemaps with pre-approved well and septic locations for certain subdivisions. Some counties in Montana do require permits, so it is best to check with your county planning office to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.
